Mother's Day

International history and traditionsMother's Day in the Netherlands in 1925Northern Pacific Railway postcard for Mother's Day 1916.In most countries, Mother's Day is a recent observance derived from the holiday as it has evolved in the United States. When it was adopted by other countries and cultures, it was given different meanings, associated to different events (religious, historical or legendary), and celebrated on a different date or dates. Some countries already had existing celebrations honoring motherhood, and their celebrations have adopted several external characteristics from the American holiday, like giving carnations and other presents to your own mother. The extent of the celebrations varies greatly. In some countries, it is potentially offensive to one's mother not to mark Mother's Day. In others, it is a little-known festival celebrated mainly by immigrants, or covered by the media as a taste of foreign culture.[citation needed][edit] ReligionIn the Roman Catholic Church, the holiday is strongly associated with reverencing the Virgin Mary.[29] In many Catholic homes, families have a special shrine devoted to the…Continue

"I know there's love between all five of us," he said. "I know there is. Not just four of us, five of us. We owe it to the fans. The LEAST we can do is give them one great performance."Needless to say, the full reunion didn't happen – and in a new interview with Rolling Stone, Adler says that he's finally given up hopes for a reunion and wants to move on with his life. He has a new group called Adler and they are releasing their debut LP and hitting the road this year. "The world needs a new rock and roll band," he says. "And we’re just the guys to do it. It’s the greatest way to start a new chapter in my life."Adler also says this is the last interview he'll ever…Continue

Top 9 Sex Jokes of All TimeTotal Views: 263870Last Updated: 1/1/2000Number Votes: 2,151 | Average: 2.65# 9A man is in a hotel lobby. He wants to ask the clerk a question. As he turns to go to the front desk, he accidentally bumps into a woman beside him and as he does, his elbow goes into her breast. They are both quite startled. The man turns to her and says, "Ma'am, if your heart is as soft as your breast, I know you'll forgive me." She replies, "if your penis is as hard as your elbow, I'm in room 1221."# 8A young man walks up and sits down at the bar. "What can I get you?" the bartender inquires. "I want 6 shots of Jagermeister," responded the young man. "6 shots?!? Are you celebrating something?" "Yeah, my first blowjob." "Well, in that case, let me give you a 7th on the house." "No offence, sir. But if 6 shots won't get rid of the taste, nothing will."# 7A businessman boards a flight and is lucky enough to be seated next to an absolutely gorgeous woman. They exchange brief hellos and he notices she is reading a manual about sexual statistics. He asks her about it and she replies, "This is a very interesting book about sexual statistics. It identifies that American Indians have the longest average penis and Polish men have the biggest average diameter. By the way, my name is Jill. What's yours?" He coolly replies, "Tonto Kawalski, nice to meet you."# 6One night, as a couple lay down for bed, the husband gently taps his wife on the shoulder and starts rubbing her arm. The wife turns over and says: "I'm sorry honey, I've got a gynecologist appointment tomorrow and I want to stay fresh." The husband, rejected, turns over and tries to sleep. A few minutes later, he rolls back over and taps his wife again. This time he whispers in her ear: "Do you have a dentist appointment tomorrow too?"# 5Bill worked in a pickle factory. Garbage Frontwoman Shirley Manson Talks Women in Music

Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson thinks there isn’t enough female-driven talent in today’s music industry. Speaking with NME.com, Manson explained that while she’s grateful that “the biggest stars de jour are female pop stars,” she believes that when it comes down to it, women don’t have much creative control over their music.

“[Women are] not being giving a lot of chances,” she said. “They are worked really hard, they are wrung dry on tour, then given new songs, which are written by men to start the process all over again. This is what I have a problem with, the lack of female opinion out there.”

Manson also stated that when Garbage broke out in the ’90s, she felt women had more power in the music scene. “Our generation felt like we had busted through a glass ceiling,” she said. “All of a sudden we were on the radio, selling records but not having the play the submissive role of a woman. Now I feel like things have returned to the way they were before we started.”

Garbage’s latest album, Not Your Kind of People, arrives in stores and online outlets today (May 15). Manson also recently stated that the…

Classic 1979 Alice Cooper Concert to Arrive on DVD This Month

|
05.15.2012

A classic Alice Cooper concert depicting the makeup-ed rocker during his famed 1979 Madhouse Rock Tour is set to reach DVD on May 22. The Strange Case of Alice Cooper features footage of the shock rocker playing songs from his 1978 album, From the Inside, plus a selection of earlier hits. Highlights include Cooper singing “School’s Out,” “No More Mr. Nice Guy,” “I’m Eighteen” and “I Never Cry” – all true Alice favorites.

Of course, this wasn’t a tame show. Cooper’s concert reportedly was inspired by his visit to a New York sanitarium and offers plenty of creepy allusions to the visit. The DVD also will offer an introduction by none other than late horror-film star Vincent Price.

Alice Cooper’s The Strange Case of Alice Cooper track list:

“From the Inside” “Serious” “Nurse Rozetta” “The Quiet Room” “I Never Cry” “Devil's Food” “Welcome to My Nightmare” “Billion Dollar Babies” “Only Women Bleed” “No More Mr. Nice Guy” “I’m Eighteen” “The Black Widow” “Wish I Was Born in Beverly Hills” “Ballad of Dwight Fry” “Go to Hell” “How You Gonna See Me Now” “Inmates (We’re All Crazy)” “School’s…

Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale Says New Album is Edgier than Debut

Halestorm frontman Lzzy Hale is a rocker at heart, and that edge really comes out on the band’s latest full-length, The Strange Case Of… The set takes the sound Halestorm established on their 2009 self-titled debut and amps it up.

“What we wanted to do was document where we are right now,” Hale told NJ.com, regarding the new album. “On the last record, the lyrics were more edgy like, ‘I get off on you, getting off on me,’ and, ‘I’m in love and it’s not you,’ that kind of stuff, and I fell in love with that style of writing.

“But, I don’t know, something happened in the course of a couple of years and now I’m writing about the things that make me feel happy. Mass audience appeal was never a thought on this record.”

Hale stopped by the Gibson USA factory in Nashville, Tennessee, last week to receive her very own Lzzy Hale Signature Explorer. She says it’s an honor to have her own Gibson.

“It’s funny because, I prefer the Burstbuckers in certain guitars, but for the Explorer, I always had standard pickups because I like that…

Kid Rock Raises $1 Million for Detroit Symphony Orchestra

Kid Rock Raises $1 Million for Detroit Symphony Orchestra

05.15.2012

Kid Rock brought his rock-heavy sounds to Detroit’s Fox Theatre last weekend for a good cause. The musician played a fundraiser for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra that brought in more than $1 million in funds, according to the Detroit News.

Kid Rock kicked off the gig sporting something much different than his usual concert attire: a tuxedo. Meanwhile, the 70-piece orchestra donned fedoras in true Kid Rock fashion. Following “Devil Without a Cause,” Rock joked, “You guys didn’t think I was gonna wear the tuxedo all night, did you?” He then left the stage and came back wearing his tried-and-true concert wear:  a black T-shirt. From there, he launched into “All Summer Long.”

Of course, Kid Rock had to quip about the irony of the fact that he agreed to perform with the Detroit Symphony. He told the audience that he probably had one too many drinks when he agreed to play with the DSO, but also acknowledged that it was “the best drunk move I ever made.”

Rock also performed with his Twisted Brown Trucker band, wrapping up the night playing “Son of Detroit,” “God Bless Saturday” and “Wastin’…

New AC/DC Album, in a Year or Maybe Two

|
05.15.2012

While vacationing in Scotland, AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young has been talking about a new album. He was quick to tell Classic Rock that he felt Brian Johnson was somewhat unrealistic in suggesting the band’s new album could be out next year.

“You know what Brian’s like,” Young said. “He just says things and then walks away. It’ll be a little while – a year or two anyway.

“I’ve been doing some jamming on some song ideas but I do that all the time, as do the rest of the band. We are still working. But we had a long rest between Stiff Upper Lip and Black Ice, so I think we need a couple of years to recuperate and work on it a bit more.”
